Deborah Riley with her company Deborah Riley Dance Projects, celebrates twenty years of dance making as an artist in residence at Dance Place. Known for "exceptional crafting" (Washington Post) with the all female company, her artistic work has illuminated the concerns of women in society as well as personal journeys of the heart and mind. Creating more than thirty works, Riley was the first artist selected for the Kennedy Center's local dance commissioning project and her artistic voice and distinguished leadership in the community was honored with the Pola Nirenska award. "Not every dancemaker is lucky enough to improve with age. But this 20-year Dance Place veteran has gotten better and better….At this point in her career, Riley looks to be comfortable in her own artistic skin, and it's a skin that her dancers also enjoy inhabiting" (The Washington Post). The celebration concert will feature Steel Angel, the first work Riley created in DC for Perlo/Bloom & Co., Old Cronies from 2000 and a new work in progress called PLACE. The three works represent a personal artistic evolution that embraces and celebrates change. Joining the company for cameo appearances in Old Cronies will be select alumni dancers from 1988-2007 seasons.
