Join Washington, DC area dance artists Daniel Burkholder and Sharon Mansur as they share 20 years of surprising, intimate, playful and provocative collaborative experience of performing together improvisationally.
These three improvisation workshops delve into skills, approaches and scores to develop greater awareness, expressive articulation and creative possibilities within an improvisational context. Perfect for artists interested in performing improvisationally, while expanding their choreographic tools, performance quality and artistic process.
Solos: January 22 at 10:00am – 1pm
This workshop will focus on solo improvisation with emphasis on presence, spontaneous movement invention and development, spatial attention, compositional structure and music awareness/ relationship.
Duets: January 29 at 10:00am – 1pm
This workshop will focus on responding and relating to another performer, making mutual decisions, developing a shared understanding, and balancing autonomy and cooperation.
Groups: February 5 at 10:00am – 1pm
This workshop will expand on the work from the first two weeks to explore larger group improvisation. We will focus on creating group cohesion and awareness, greater spatial coherence, initiating vs. supporting, and how to develop structure for performance.
