Kimmie Dobbs Chan

Kimmie Dobbs Chan is Co-Artistic Director of DEVIATED THEATRE, along with Enoch Chan. Together they compose modern fairytales and pioneer new avenues of physical theater, which they call operas of movement. Since their debut at Dance Place in 2008, the Chans have created 4 full evening-length productions, including Sway (2010) which was nominated for several MetroDC Dance Awards, and siGHt (2011) which was commissioned by the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts as part of P.A.F.E. and the Millennium Stage.

Kimmie studied dance in her youth at Ballet Theatre of Annapolis and Fran’s Studio of Dance, and has supplemented with the NYCDA Intensive, NCSA summer program, as well as classes at the Kirov Preparatory program and the EDGE PAC. In 1997 Kimmie performed the role of Clara in the Chicago premiere of the Radio City Christmas Spectacular, and she performed with Bosmadance in their 2006/2007 season.

Kimmie has a B.S. in Kinesiology from UMD, College Park and teaches around town as Certified Instructor of STOTT Pilates (since 2003), GYROTONIC exercise (since 2008), and GYROKINESIS (since 2011). She also teaches dance for the Dedicated & Talented Program at the Metropolitan Fine Arts Center, and recently choreographed also for Woodbridge Performing Arts High School (2010) and Joy of Motion Youth Ensemble Senior Company (2011). Kimmie is also a recipient of the 2011 Maryland State Arts Council Individual Artist Award for Dance Choreography and the 2012 Mark Ryder Originial Choreography Grant. www.deviatedtheatre.org
