Grand Re-Opening of our building!
After 10 months of renovations, we moved back home in June for performances, classes and our Energizers Creative Arts Camp. We’re now hard at work preparing for our Grand Re-Opening celebrations, September 6 – 13, 2014.
Please join us for Be In Brookland / Community Open House on Saturday, September 6th. We welcome you to tour our new spaces, sample classes for all ages, enjoy our Art on 8th music and gallery, plus meet some of the artists who call Dance Place home. For our Brick Donors – please join us at 5pm as we raise of glass of thanks for your dedicated bricks, take a selfie photo on the plaza and speak with artist Christopher Janney as he explains his “Touch My Building: Dance Place” installation. We look forward to welcoming donors, project partners and community leaders at our official Ribbon Cutting ceremony on Wednesday, September 10th. The week culminates in with our Grand Re-Opening Gala on September 13th, which we are proud to report is completely sold-out!
Thanks to our loyal audiences for joining us for performances that Dance Place presented in venues all over town this past year including: Atlas Performing Arts Center, Arts Club of Washington, Betts Theater at The George Washington University, The Edgewood Arts Center, Hartke Theater at Catholic University of America, Ira Aldridge Theater at Howard University, Monroe St. Market Arts Walk and the National Portrait Gallery. We enjoyed the opportunity to expand our reach and cross fertilize audiences from other parts of the city.
If you or your children attend classes, you know that we were fortunate to continue right here on 8th Street! We never missed a beat, hosting classes at the new Edgewood Arts Center and our own dance studio located in the Brookland Artspace Lofts. The next semester of classes in our many spaces (including new second floor Hyman M. Perlo Studio!) begins this September.
