Rob Curto’s Forró For All (Free Art on 8th Event)
May 18, 2017 @ 5:00 pm - 8:00 pmFree
Brazilian Dance Music. Third Thursday!
This event takes place on the Arts Walk at Monroe Street Market (716 Monroe St NE) right by Brookland-CUA Metro (Red Line).
American accordionist or sanfoneiro Rob Curto brings Forró for All, featuring Brazilian singer Rose Moraes, to explore the roots music of the Northeast of Brazil.
This is the music of resilient, hard-working people and of strong, colorful cultural traditions. From the dance party music of Forró, traditionally played at family events and Saturday night parties throughout Brazil, Carnaval music, or Frevo, from the city of Recife, to Maracatu with roots in Afro-Brazilian religion and culture, this music is both direct, heartful and sophisticated.
Rose has become one of the most important figures in Brazilian music on the East Coast, with her group Soul Brazil. Rob Curto is one of the original musicians responsible for introducing North Americans to the accordion-driven sounds of Forró, currently leading the touring ensemble Matuto. Together with other veterans of Brazilian music, they present Roots of Brazil.
The rain location for this event will be Artist Lounge at Monroe Street Market, 716 Monroe St NE, Washington, DC 20017.
