A danced conversation between mother, brother, lover and friend, Walking out the Dark examines our ability to support each other in times of need. Ron K. Brown’s exquisite fusion of contemporary and spiritual dance contrasts American and world cultures, while exploring the strength of ritual to heal and examine our truest selves. This work was inspired by his visit to Cuba working with Malpaso Dance Company.
In this work, EVIDENCE examines what impedes our ability to assist each other in times of need. In America, we do not have codified rituals of self-examination and healing as in other societies. The work utilizes this contrast to show how culture and ritual can affect us. Featuring text excerpted from a series of letters by Ron K. Brown, the sound score includes music by Phillip Hamilton, Sweet Honey in the Rock and Francisco Mora.
This engagement of Ronald K. Brown/ EVIDENCE is made possible through the ArtsCONNECT program of Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation with support from the National Endowment for the Arts. Funded in part by the National Endowment for the Arts.
