Moving Forward Campaign: Program Expansion & Enhancement
Dance Place has transformed the landscape of dance in the Washington, DC metropolitan area and nationally through presenting performances, supporting the development of new work, training dance artists and cultivating partnerships across multiple sectors of the community. The Dance Place Program Enhancement Fund will support our adventurous programming endeavors, including commissioning of new works, seed money for new programs and expansion of our programs into our community on outdoor plazas and stages (such as our Arts Plaza, the newly developing Monroe Street Market Stage, Portrait Gallery at Gallery Place, 18th Street Amphitheater).
The Fund helps strengthen our capacity to commission new works by establishing a new, independent commissioning program to support local and national artists. Our Program Enhancement fund will assure that our programs will remain affordable and oftentimes free with underwriting for outdoor performances and family series events. The Campaign will support additional and increased scholarship opportunities for our Afterschool Program, Summer Creative Arts Camp and children’s dance classes for families who cannot otherwise afford it.
Dance Place is preparing to play an expanded role in Brookland alongside the rapid developments to our neighborhood, including over 40 new retail opportunities and 1,000 new residential units. Dance Place will be a bridge between new residents and existing residents with the curation and presentation of cultural programs and community meetings on our campus and throughout Brookland. These performances, concerts and film screenings will ensure that people of all economic standing have access to high quality cultural events and will provide an opportunity for people from diverse backgrounds (new and existing residents) to experience the arts together.
