SUMMARY:slowdanger
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, October 5 at 8pm\nSunday\, October 6 at 7pm\nslowdanger. Photo by David McCandless \nFeaturing five dancers\, two computational artists\, and one responsive LED sculpture\, Pittsburgh-based slowdanger presents a new evening-length work that examines empathy as a continual process. In empathy machine\, technology\, sound\, and movement physicalize the impact of intimacy and how it ripples through an imagined\, futuristic society. Performers dramatically change their environment through responsive technology and an expansive light sculpture. By sensitizing the audience to the effects of movement in space\, the work proposes a process to reconnect with our bodies as a tool for resilience and resistance against oppressive systems.  \ntaylor knight and anna thompson are co-founding artistic directors of multidisciplinary performance entity\, slowdanger. Using found material\, electronic instrumentation\, vocalization\, physiological centering\, and ontological examination\, their collaborative performance works are non-binary organisms amassed of multiple bodies in space. Working with energy\, synergy\, action\, gender\, time\, and storytelling\, they craft a ritual practice and delve into the cyclical patterns of life – from birth\, transformation\, death and back to birth.  \nslowdanger produces performances\, immersive experiences\, and open-level workshops/educational initiatives. anna and taylor develop soundscores for theater\, dance\, film and virtual reality projects as well as act as interdisciplinary movement consultants for actors\, musicians\, and architects. From directing music videos to scoring plays\, slowdanger transforms its shape to adapt to a variety of performative containers.  \nPlease note this show will NOT include late seating! \nBuy Tickets » \n \nslowdanger – empathy machine – 2019 from slowdanger on Vimeo. \nPerformances by slowdanger are made possible through the Special Presenters Initiative program of the Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation with support from the National Endowment for the Arts and the DC Commission on the Arts & Humanities. \nTickets\n$30 Admission\n$25 Admission (Dance Place Members\, Seniors and Artists)\n$15 College Students and Children (17 & Under) \nAdvanced Sales – ends one week prior to performance weekend\n$25 Advanced Sales Admission\n$20 Advanced Sales Admission (Dance Place Members\, Seniors and Artists) \nBuy Tickets »
