Master Class Series 2015

Experience class with choreographers from all across the country in Dance Place’s Master Class series! Drop in for only $15 to these classes. All classes located at Dance Place unless otherwise noted.

The class moves towards large moving combination exploring full use of space, shifts of weight, physicality, momentum as well as achieving a balance between precision and self-expression.

Wednesday, March 18: 10:15am- 12pm*
zoe | juniper (from Seattle)
The class combines musicality, visual and physical metaphors in both improvisation and structured forms as a vehicle to surprise and further each dancer’s potential.

Saturday, April 4: 11am- 12:30pm*
Cynthia Oliver / COCo Dance Theatre (from Urbana, Illinois)
COCo Dance Theatre’s Leslie Cuyjet leads a class which encourages the body to engage in a present state using awareness of space and self.

Wednesday, April 15: 10:15am- 12pm*
Rosy Simas (from Minneapolis)
This class approaches body alignment from both anatomical and body-felt viewpoints, helping the student move with greater ease, efficiency and power.

Wednesday, May 13 10:15am- 12pm*
BodyCartography Project (from Minneapolis)
This workshop uses movement to reveal the connection between how we feel, how we think and how we act.

Class Descriptions

AFRICAN DANCE:
Explore the richness of African Dance traditions from Guinea, Mali and Senegal.

HIP-HOP:
Learn a variety of urban dance styles, including popping, locking and house, taught by a rotating team of renowned guest instructors.

JAZZ DANCE:
An enjoyable fusion of jazz, modern and ballet techniques danced to a spectrum of music from jazz and R&B to house music and Broadway tunes.

MODERN DANCE:
Experience a wide range of dance and movement techniques including Laban/Bartinieff, Horton, Social Dance and Yoga, using floorwork, gesture phrases and combinations.

REPERTORY & PERFORMANCE AND FIELDWORK:
Culminate in public performances at Dance Place. See separate registration form for class descriptions and performance dates.

SALSA:
Learn the social dance Rueda de Casino and other Cuban dance forms. The classes use popular music including Son, Songo, Changui and Timba.

40 & UP DANCE:
Experienced dancers can enjoy fun, gentle dance technique with movement exploration, grounded in Laban Movement Analysis.
