Dance Place will be closed Juneteenth, Independence Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Day. Dance Place follows DC Public School closing schedules for severe weather.

Dance Place is located in the Brookland neighborhood, a short walk from Brookland/CAU Metro Station on the Red Line.

By Public Transportation

Walking Directions from Metro:

Dance Place is two blocks from the Brookland/CUA Redline Metro stop.

Exit the turnstiles and immediately go left and up the escalator. At the top of the escalator make a U-turn.

You will be facing the Monroe Street Market buildings. Head between the buildings down their Arts Walk.

You’ll come to a cross walk which leads across Monroe Street NE to 8th Street NE. Dance Place is two blocks down on the left side of the street.

Numerous Metro Bus lines also go to the Brookland Station, including the H series, G8, and 80 buses.

By Car

In Alphabetical Order:

From 495 North:

Take the Takoma Park Exit, Route 650 South, which is also New Hampshire Avenue. Go two traffic lights and turn left on Adelphi Road. Adelphi crosses East-West Highway and becomes Queens Chapel Road. Stay on Queens Chapel Rd. and once you have crossed the DC line, Queens Chapel Road becomes Michigan Avenue. Stay on Michigan, cross bridge and turn left at 7th Street, NE. Go one block and turn left on Monroe Street, NE. Take your first right on 8th Street, NE. Dance Place is two blocks down on the left side of the street.

From Bethesda/Chevy Chase:

Head south on Connecticut Ave NW. Turn left on Porter St NW and continue onto Klingle Rd NW. Turn right on Adams Mill Rd NW. Slight left onto Irving St NW, following all the way (past Washington Hospital Center) until it empties into Michigan Ave NE. Take a left on Michigan (National Shrine will be on your left). Go through two traffic lights and turn right onto Monroe St. where you will see new building construction. Go down two blocks on Monroe past more constuction and take a right on 8th Street. Dance Place is two blocks down on the left.

From Columbia Road (Adams Morgan):

Take Columbia Road North to 16th Street. Make a left on 16th and go about two blocks to Irving Street. Turn right on Irving past the Washington Hospital Center until it empties into Michigan Avenue, NE. Turn left on Michigan Avenue, proceed through two traffic lights and after the National Shrine bear right onto Monroe Street. Drive two blocks on Monroe and turn right on 8th Street, NE. Dance Place is two blocks down on the left.

From Dupont Circle:

Take P Street East to Logan Circle. From the circle, take Rhode Island Avenue to 4th Street, NE. Take a left on 4th Street and turn right on Michigan Avenue (the National Shrine will be in front of you). Go through two traffic lights and bear right at the fork onto Monroe Street. Drive 2 blocks and turn right on 8th Street. Dance Place is two blocks down on the left.

From Interstate 95 (NY and Philadelphia):

Take Interstate 95 South to Washington, DC. Follow 95 South through Baltimore towards Washington, DC. On approach to Washington, take the Capital Beltway toward Richmond (Route 495). Exit Route 495 to the Baltimore Washington Parkway (Route 295 South – exit number 29). Continue on Route 295 as it merges with Route 50 towards Washington, DC. Exit at South Dakota Avenue. Go about eight traffic lights and turn left onto Monroe Street, NE. After passing a small bridge, turn left onto 8th Street. Dance Place is two blocks down on 8th Street, NE on the left side of the street.

From New York Avenue (going East):

Follow New York Avenue until 1st Street, NW. Make a left turn onto 1st, and follow to Hanover Street. Make a right onto Hanover and go to North Capitol. Make a right onto North Capitol and follow to Michigan Avenue. Take a right on Michigan (you will pass the National Shrine on your left). Go through two traffic lights and bear right at the fork onto Monroe Street. Go two blocks and make a right on 8th St. Dance Place is two blocks down on the left.

From New York Avenue (going West):

Follow New York Avenue until North Capitol Street. Make a right onto North Capitol and follow to Michigan Avenue. Take a right on Michigan (you will pass the National Shrine on your left). Go through two traffic lights and bear right at the fork onto Monroe Street. Go two blocks and make a right on 8th Street, NE. Dance Place is two blocks down on the left.

From North Capitol Street (going South from Takoma Park):

Follow North Capitol as it winds along for about 1.5 – 2 miles. Stay in right lane and watch for exit sign to Washington Hospital Center. Pass the sign and take the next right, the exit is called Eastbound on Irving. When you get to the traffic signal at Michigan Avenue, turn left onto Michigan. Continue until you see the National Shrine on your left. At the next traffic light, turn right onto Monroe Street. Go two blocks and turn right onto 8th Street, NE. Dance Place is two blocks on the left.

From North Capitol Street (going North from Capitol Hill):

Take North Capitol to Michigan Avenue NE. Take a right on Michigan (you will pass the National Shrine on your left). Go through two traffic lights and bear right at the fork onto Monroe Street. Go two blocks and make a right on 8th Street. Dance Place is two blocks down on the left.

From Route 1 (College Park):

Take Route 1 South (Baltimore Ave). Route 1 will eventually become Rhode Island Avenue. Take a right on 12th Street, NE. Drive about 8 blocks and turn left on Monroe Street. Follow Monroe for two blocks. Cross the bridge, then immediately turn left on 8th Street, NE. Dance Place is two blocks down on the left.

From Route 50 West (Annapolis):

Take Route 50 West toward Washington, DC. Route 50 will eventually merge into the Baltimore Washington Parkway. At that point stay to the right and exit on to South Dakota Avenue, NE. You can only go one direction at that exit. Stay on South Dakota and turn left on Monroe Street. NE. Travel approximately 13 blocks and turn left onto 8th Street. NE (it will be your first left after you have crossed a small bridge that crosses the Metro tracks). Dance Place is two blocks down on the left.

From Virginia / 395:

Take 395 North over 14th Street Bridge in DC. Exit to 12th Street, following to Constitution Avenue. Take a right on Constitution and continue driving about 1.5 miles. After passing 6th Street, NW, stay in the left lane and follow the flow of traffic to remain on Constitution Avenue as it crosses over Pennsylvania Avenue (you will be making 2 quick jogs to the left within one block distance). Stay in the left lane just before reaching the Capitol building, and then turn left onto Louisiana Ave. Drive 4 blocks and turn left onto North Capitol Street. Stay on North Capitol for about 1.5 – 2 miles (going north). Turn right onto Michigan Avenue and continue about 1/2 mile. Just past the National Shrine, bear right at the fork onto Monroe Street. Go two blocks and turn right on 8th Street, NE. Dance Place is two blocks down on the left.

From Virginia / Interstate 66 (Fairfax):

Take Interstate 66 from Fairfax towards Washington, DC. Continue until 66 ends by merging into Constitution Avenue in Washington. Continue on Constitution about 1.5 miles. After passing 6th Street, NW, stay in the left lane and follow the flow of traffic to remain on Constitution Avenue as it crosses over Pennsylvania Avenue (you will be making 2 quick jogs to the left within one block distance). Take a left on Michigan (National Shrine will be on your left). Go through two traffic lights and turn right onto Monroe St. Go down two blocks on Monroe and take a right on 8th Street. Dance Place is two blocks down on the left.

Parking

Parking Near Dance Place

Dance Place is located in a residential neighborhood. Ample free street parking is available at any time of the day.

On the weekends, there is no limit on how long you may park on the street. On weekdays, please pay close attention to posted signs regarding time limited parking or dedicated street cleaning days.

Public parking is available in Monroe Street Market's Cornerstone building (3470 7th St NE), 2 blocks from Dance Place.

Rates for paid parking are:

  • 0-1 hour: $2
  • 1 1/2 hours: $5
  • 2 hours: $10
  • 3 hours : $15
  • Max: $25
