Energizers Afterschool Club
Every day after school, youth ages 7-13 participate in a creative education curriculum that includes cooking, arts & crafts, horticulture, reading, writing and math. The program provides physical play, weekly dance class (as part of our Kids on the Move classes), community service, homework help, fieldtrips and more. A 4pm pick up is available for youth attending charter schools located on 8th Street NE.
The Energizers Afterschool Club meets Monday through Friday from 4-6pm at Dance Place’s Eugene and Agnes E. Meyer Creative Education Center (3305 8th Street NE #102).
In this artistic youth program, teens ages 14-19 engage in a variety of activities that nurture the whole self as a Junior Staff members. Teens gain exposure to the arts by taking part in free weekly art classes (dance, drumming and more). In addition, Junior Staff participants learn job readiness skills with work training shifts as office aides, teaching assistants, theater tech assistants, front of house staff and facility maintenance. Junior Staff work closely with Dance Place staff members in departments such as youth programs, marketing, development, box office and production. Teens are required to attend Monday life skills sessions (job training, financial management, communication skills, team building, college readiness) and receive an honorarium for positive participation and commitment in all aspects of the program.
Students are expected to maintain strong academic standing. During the school year, the Junior Staff work afterschool and on weekends (average of 6 hours a week); during the summer, teens work between 12-40 hours a week and participate in Summer Camp activities.
