Dance Place serves and enriches over 20,000 youth and families annually through our NEXTgeneration Youth programs.

  • After school, children age 7-14 come to Dance Place’s Energizers After School Club to discover a warm, mentoring haven for creative education and play.
  • In the summer, children become campers at our Energizers Creative Arts Camp where they enjoy a full day, seven week program filled with activities like performing and visual arts, gardening and academically focused enrichment classes.
  • Teens Age 13-16 learn leadership, office administration, and gain employment experience working as Junior Staff while earning an honorarium for their work.

The mission of Dance Place/NEXTgeneration is to assist youth in meeting the challenges they face through childhood and adolescence by providing innovative life skills training, creative academic education and cultural experiences through the performing arts. Summer Camp participant Kalil painting pots in Garden Club

“Garden Club is my favorite thing about Camp because we get to plant stuff and take it home.  We watch plants grow and eat them.  I like camp because everybody is having a good time.”

Jasmine McLaurin, Former Dance Place Junior Staff

“I don’t think I could ever express how indebted I am to Carla Perlo and Deborah Riley for their commitment to a place where I was able to prove myself – not only as a dancer, but as a capable human being.  Above all else, Dance Place pushed me to function in the real world.  I came into contact with different people, different backgrounds & styles on a daily basis.  I was able to gain an appreciation for art that I am now using to its full potential at NYU.”
