Local Residencies
Dance Place is proud to introduce a new creative residency dedicated to supporting the community of emerging choreographers right here in the DMV throughout the season. This season, we are thrilled to welcome the cohort of Javier Padilla & The Movement Playground, ThimS Dance Company, Amber Lucia Chabus. Miss Grace David and Chitra Subramanian/chitra.MOVES. Through residency, these artists will receive dedicated studio space and invaluable time to cultivate their practice. Beyond providing a creative home, the residency also offers mentorship opportunities, connecting them with experienced dance professionals. Artists may also share works-in-progress through informal showings, offering audiences a glimpse into their creative process and fostering community dialogue.

Core to this collaborative series are the ideas of exploration, experimentation, exchange, and creative risk. This pairing of Javier Padilla & The Movement Playground and ThimS Dance Company contextualizes and conceptualizes these themes through a queer lens built from storytelling, embodied memory, and bleak humor. Narratives and scenarios are formed as this collection of queer artists revisit their past, their truths, and their delusions—stylized for this new collaborative work.
