D.C. native Sylvana Christopher is a performer, choreographer, and teaching artist who believes in the power of dance to express the inner self through movement. A graduate of The Washington School of Ballet and The Ohio State University, where she earned a BFA in Dance Performance & Choreography, Christopher’s commitment to community and dance led her to co-found Glade Dance Collective, SylviDances, and Vigorous Roots.
Christopher’s performance credits include prestigious venues such as The National Museum of African Arts, The Kennedy Center, and The Atlas Performing Arts Center, and she has danced works by renowned choreographers like Holly Bass, Lucy Bowen McCauley, and Gesel Mason. Her choreographic works, including Winter Song, Harvest Moon, Then She Fell, ash, A Friend Like You, Choosing Fate, and Resonance have been showcased throughout the D.C. area.
Christopher’s passion for dance extends to teaching, and she has shared her expertise with students at Dance Loft on 14, The Washington Ballet, and Joy of Motion Dance Center. She currently teaches youth and their teachers for Inspired Child, and youth and family dance at Dance Place, and Sitar Arts Center.
