Image Description: The image shows five contemporary dancers mid-performance on a dark stage. Each dancer is striking a unique, expressive pose, demonstrating strength, flexibility, and emotion. They wear sleek black or white outfits with some metallic or sparkly elements, enhancing the visual drama. The lighting is low and focused, creating strong contrasts and emphasizing their movements against the dark background.

Christopher K. Morgan + Malashock Dance Residency & Masterclass

May 26 – 30, 2025

The Dulling Effect is a bold performance, conceived and choreographed by former Dance Place Executive Artistic Director Christopher K. Morgan. It challenges the audience to consider the ways in which technology, legislation, and societal norms can dull our sense of connection to one another and to ourselves. At the same time, it offers a vision of what can happen when we resist those forces—when we embrace diversity, celebrate individuality, and reclaim our right to express our true selves.

On Wednesday, May 28 at 6:30 pm, join Dance Place for a FREE intermediate-advanced contemporary practice masterclass taught by our Former Executive Artistic Director Christopher K. Morgan! Through a warm-up that incorporates yoga, release technique, modern dance, task based improvisation, and a thoughtful build-up to full-bodied virtuosic movement, students are asked to bring their entire selves into the class and express themselves without inhibition. Physical tasks throughout the class emphasize smooth transitions in and out of the floor, clear use of the legs, grounded balance, expansive stretch, and abandoned upper bodies. These physical qualities all stand on a foundation of community values that balance listening to oneself with acutely tuning into the ensemble. The class will draw on phrase work from Morgan’s currently developing work The Dulling Effect.

Then, come back on Friday, May 30 at 6 PM for an informal showing The Dulling Effect, followed by an open reception!
